A Closer Look Into The 296 Speciale
Interior
A specific door panel was created for this car consisting of a single block of carbon fibre with a minimalist design. The grab handle takes shape as a raised section of a functional zone terminating in a distinctive, clean-cut surface and incorporating the speakers of the Hi-Fi system. The tunnel consists of a structure entirely in carbon fibre, into which the console carrying the controls is set. The most distinctive of these controls is the gear shift gate selector, which draws inspiration from the shifter turret in sports Ferraris of the past.Design
The design of the 296 Speciale has very clear links with closed-wheel racing Ferraris. The front view leaves no doubt as to the potent performance capabilities and expressiveness of the car. The front bonnet appears more scalloped, a result of the contrasting positive and negative surface effect achieved by paring away volume. The lower zone is characterised by a splitter and a front intake which is more extreme in style than the 296 GTB to reveal all the power and sportiness of the 296 Speciale, and is larger to create the impression of a trimaran shape. The influence of the motor sports world, and of the 296 Challenge in particular, is also immediately recognisable at the rear. The most distinctive features here are two all-new side wings fixed to the outermost edges of the tail to frame the tail itself. Ferrari 296 Speciale - Design The tailpipe of the 296 Speciale is set between the tail and the diffuser in a solution differing completely from the model it is derived from: inspired by the F80, this feature has clean, very technical forms emphasising the performance of the car. The flying bridge theme already seen on the 296 GTB and 296 GTS is further accentuated on the 296 Speciale by the dark colour finish of the roof, which gives the greenhouse an even more aggressive look. A specific new five-spoke forged wheel was designed for the 296 Speciale with contemporary, stylised forms and an architecture derived from the carbon-fibre wheel equipping the F80.Engine
The 296 Speciale is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 120° V6 internal combustion engine, which produces 700 cv in this guise, and an electric motor installed between the internal combustion engine itself and the 8-speed DCT gearbox, for a total output of 880 cv. An additional clutch decouples the engine and electric motor to allow for full-electric driving mode.
